Thank You Carolers!!!

I would like to give a big-hearted THANK YOU to everyone who went Chrismas caroling tonight!!! This was the first time I've ever headed up caroling and I am so thankful for how many people turned out!!! The families we visited were truly blessed!!!
God Bless and Merry Christmas~ Deb Capper

P.S.- Just in case you were wondering about a home we didn't visit... 12 different people/families were contacted about the carolers visiting. Most politely declined either due to health reasons or they were not going to be home. Hopefully next year we will be able to add several of those homes to our caroling list:)

P.S.S.- If you still have a hymnal, don't forget to return it!

Need Carolers

Attention all carolers- adults and kids alike! We will meet at the church at 5:30 this Sunday evening (Dec. 21st) and caroling should take about an hour. The list of people we are visiting is set so we will figure out who is driving once everyone is there. Then when the caroling is finished everyone is invited to meet at Friendly's, so make sure you bring your ice cream money along with your beautiful voices:) Any questions contact Deb Capper tdjmcapper@hotmail.com.

Water Situation

Dear Vesper Lakers, This is just a friendly reminder to please use the water sparingly while we have the temporary tank. The more water we use, the more frequently the tank has to be refilled, which costs us every time. The prospects are looking good that we will have a new water system in early 2009, but until then please remember to limit your water usage.
Thank you,
Travis Capper

Melting Pot

Our reservation is for 7:15 and I am working on a group rate since we have so many coming. Many of you have asked about departing time. Due to people's varying schedules they are leaving at different times. I know some are interested in going up early to do some shopping and some are leaving the church at 6:30. I would suggest contacting some from the list you may know and carpooling up to Legacy Village. The church is a great meeting place as you can easily access hwy 77.
For those that need directions you can mapquest or google the Melting Pot at Legacy Village. It takes roughly 30 minutes from the church.

I know it will be a great evening of fellowship and great food - let me know if you have any questions!

The Giving Tree, supporting Akron Pregnancy Services, is currently in the foyer on the bulletin board. Please take a tag (or two) and purchase the item as written, then return it wrapped with the tag taped to the outside of the gift. It is VERY important to remember to attach the tag so APS knows what is inside each present. Tags are now available anytime you are at the church, and gifts are due by December 7th. Please put your wrapped gifts in the labeled boxes near the tree. Thank you!

Vesper Bake Sale

Shelly Flanigan, wife of Tim Flanigan and daughter-in-law of Chuck and Pauline, has been led to host a weekly bake sale at Vesper Lake! Her willingness to follow God's conviction in her life and bless our community in a very tangible way is wonderful!! If your interested in supporting her ministry and the church through this great opportunity, there are a couple ways to help.
  1. First, you can come prepared to donate and buy some baked goods starting this Sunday. She will have wrapped cookies for kids and baked goods for everyone. Each item will have a suggested donation- donations can be placed directly into the offering boxes in the back of the sanctuary.
  2. Second, if you are interested in offering a baked good or a few baked goods to the table, she would greatly appreciate it. This will be a weekly opportunity to bless our community, so contact her directly if you're interested in bringing something this Sunday or in any of the coming weeks.

Driver Needed for Wednesday Nights

We are in need of a driver on Wednesday nights. Every Wednesday, around 2-6 teens from the Lighthouse ministry in Akron come to Youth Group. Pastor Brad picks them up and drops them off right now. It has been amazing to see the growth and enthusiasm of these kids- excited to learn about God in a safe and loving environment amongst their peers. Often times, it's hard for Brad because he has to leave during his final prep time and misses welcoming the teens who arrive a little early, then he has to leave quickly afterwards to drive them back. It would be an amazing blessing to Brad and to these teens if someone from our church would be willing to pick them up and/or drop them off on Wednesday nights. Please pray to see if this is a ministry that you can help with. Please contact Sarah at the church (330) 666-1733 or email adminassistant@vesperlake.org if you are interested or if you have any questions.

Helped Needed In Newborn Nursery

I am putting together a new Sunday morning schedule for the Newborn Nursery. If anyone is interested in serving on the rotation, please let me know. There are some currently serving that are on multiple rotations on Sunday mornings and I would like to find a few people that would be interested in taking their place on the Newborn schedule. The commitment involves serving once a month (unless more people sign up then it will be less frequent). If you aren't able to do Sunday mornings but would like to serve at another time such as Sunday evenings or Wednesday evenings, please let me know and I will pass the information along to the appropriate people.

This is a great way for us to minister to our young moms; allowing them to be fed spiritually, emotionally, mentally and even physically on Sunday mornings. Please pray about whether the Lord would have you serve in this capacity.

I so appreciate those who have been serving – with joy :-). You are a blessing!

Please contact me. In Him, Roslyn

Life Chain October 4, 2008

There is a pro-life group, Right to Life, located in Akron, that addresses and aims to educate on issues such as stem-cell, euthanasia, and abortion. On Saturday, October 4, 2008, is our annual Life Chain event located near the one remaining abortion clinic in Summit County (839 E. Market Street).

It would be a tremendous testimony if we had some of you, all ages, come stand and pray in defense of the unborn children. I have seen firsthand the power of prayer as the Holy Spirit works in these girl's hearts. A peaceable group, we look to speak the truth of Christ's love and our need of salvation. Jesus Christ is the true Giver of life and we are all called to protect and cherish life!

If you would like to participate, I have chosen for our group the earlier of two shifts on that day, 10:30am-12:10pm; if you are unable at that time, the second shift is 11:50 am to 1:30pm.

Feel free to contact me at before that day to sign up & for more details.

Thank you! In Christ,
Rachel Radosavcev

Meet the Bells August 21st

Please join us in welcoming Dave and Jen Bell to the Akron area as they are visiting all the way from Nairobi, Kenya. This is the couple that took care of our team and helped us be effective while we served on our mission trip this past May. We will be having an open house on Thursday evening, August 21st, at Dan and Sherri Kroslak's home at 7pm. Coffee and desserts will be served.

If you have any questions regarding life in Kenya or if you are interested in joining us on our next trip in the spring, please stop in and meet the Bells. They continue to be an encouragement to each one of us that went to Kenya and we would love for you to meet them.

Adult Fellowship Reminder/Update

Just a “quick” reminder regarding Adult Fellowship at Blossom this Saturday evening (August 16th).1. We will meet between 5:45 and 6:00 pm at the ticket office – you will pass the ticket kiosk, go over the pedestrian bridge and go to your left. You will see a row of brown buildings and we will be there. I will have tickets and you can pay at that time.2. Bring an appetizer or desert to feed 15-20 people and your own beverage and eating utensils/plates. 3. Bring camp/beach chairs, blankets or whatever you will be comfortable sitting on.4. Given the cooler weather of late it can get chilly in the evenings at Blossom; you may want to bring jackets or warmer clothing.5. It will be dark by the time the concert/fireworks are over with a lot of people exiting at once. Please pay close attention to where you are parked so you can easily find your way back to your car. There are posts with letters designating different parking areas.6. Our rain date is August 30th. I will call everyone if this is the case – pray for good weather :-)7. If you get lost, please don’t hesitate to call.

Adult Fellowship Blosson Annoucement

We've had a great response for August 16th, Adult Fellowship at Blossom. I have heard from the following people that they will be attending.

  • Mark and Sandra G
  • Bob and Tracy C
  • Mike and Marie S
  • Jeremiah and Cheryl D
  • Jerry and Patti E
  • Jim and Lisa K
  • Travis and Deb C
  • Jim and Ros B
  • Steve and Heather H

If you are still interested in going, please let me know as soon as possible. The tickets come in blocks of 10 for the best rate and I will be calling tomorrow to work out details with the ticket office. Right now we have 14 people needing tickets so ideally 6 more people would be great. Regardless, we would love to have as many as possible.

A slight change in plans. Instead of bringing a full meal; each family will bring either an appetizer or desert to feed 15-20 people along with their own beverage. This should be easier and certainly more interesting :-)

I know Jim is planning on taking cards and if you have another "quiet" game feel free to bring along. We're looking forward to having a great time of fellowship while enjoying a beautiful setting with hopefully some great music.

In Him, Roslyn Burkett

Lighthouse of Hope - Workers Needed

Dear Vesper Lakers,
Feel up to a little local missions work? We are holding a 5 day VBS at Lighthouse of Hope from Monday through Friday next week, 6-8:30 PM for five days. Dinner is at 6, then games, Bible lesson, craft with painting (BRAVE, huh?), prizes, then done at 8PM. We could use anybody and everybody that could come one, two, three, four, or all five days, anything you feel led to do would be great. Peter and Amy Nenadov were unfortunately called out of town last minute due to a funeral so we are down two helpers, if anyone could come even one night it would be a big help. The kids have so much fun and this is truly an unreached group of kids right here in Akron. If you have kids of your own or neighbor kids, you are welcome to bring anyone and all with you, we always prepare for many more than we expect.
Thanks so much in advance,

The Lighthouse of Hope Team

Sunday Morning Services Share Africa Experiences

Thank you all for your support of our Africa Trip and our team. We have been truly blessed by your prayers and gifts that made our trip possible. We are excited that we have an opportunity to be a blessing to you by sharing our experiences with you this Sunday in two different services. Sunday morning our worship service will be a little different- with a testimony by Susan, a short challenge from the Word of God combined with experiences from his trip by Brother Jacob, and a short challenge from the Word of God and applications learned from his trip by Pastor Brad. Then in the evening service (at 6:30 p.m.) we will have all 7 of the team members share what God taught them from the trip. Please come and join us for one or both of these services as we worship together because we know your heart will be blessed, your spirit challenged and your knowledge of God's work deepened.
