New VLBF Bible Study on 7/20

Coming Soon: Home Bible Study on Marriage
Please consider joining us for an in-depth Bible study on the topic of marriage and a rich time of fellowship and friendship!

Starting on July 20th we will begin a home based study using the book and study guide entitled “Sacred Marriage” by Gary Thomas (see book description attached).

From the 20th on we will be meeting every other week at either Jerry and Patti Emich’s home or Jim and Roslyn Burkett’s home where child care will be provided. We will meet on Monday evenings from 6:45 to 8:30.

The Bible study will be limited (due to space considerations and group dynamics) to a small group of no more than six couples. If there are more couples who are interested we will try to begin a second study or have a waiting list for another study in the new year.

For those who are considering joining us please note that as a group we would expect a commitment to attend each session and complete the reading and study guide assignments. If you have any questions regarding the study or to sign up please contact Jim or Roslyn Burkett or Jerry and Patti Emich

Project Shine 6/21-26

Project Shine 2009 June 21st-26th

This year we have 7 going in the Youth Group to Project Shine. Project Shine is a local missions trip we do each year to work in the Kenmore area of Akron. We will be painting houses, both inside and out, small construction projects, and yard work to the residents in need. This is a great way to minister the Gospel of our Lord through service to our extended community. We have built relationships with Project Shine over the last four years and are looking forward to a great week this summer. There is a cost of $175 each for the students going and we are seeking to raise this money at our dinner. Prayerfully consider donating to our God by giving our teens the opportunity to serve Him at Project Shine. For more information on Project Shine check out www.projectshineakron.org.

VLBF Quarterly Planning Meetings 6/1

In an effort to be more effective and efficient in our communication as a church, we will be having quarterly planning meetings.
The goal of the meetings includes:
  • Create a calendar that would provide a form of consistency and accountability for VLBF
  • Unite the ministries of our church
  • Become a more inclusive church for newcomers
  • Encourage the various ministry leaders
  • Involve the elders and other lay leadership of the church in clear, purposeful goal setting regarding programming
  • Reduce time spent on programming for the leadership team
  • Communicate more effectively and efficiently to the elders, volunteers, and congregation

The meetings will be planned two months prior to the new quarter; which means that the first meeting will be in August to plan for the fall quarter- October, November, December.

We would like each of you- ministry heads of VLBF to come prepared with a three month calendar for your ministry, including tentative event and meeting dates, times, deadlines, location, goals and objectives, and any other pertinent information regarding your ministry for those three months. In addition, the Leadership Team representative will come prepared with sermons, speakers, evening service schedule, member's meetings, and any special initiatives.

It is important for every ministry to have at least one representative at each planning meeting.

The various ministries are:
  • Music- Brian and Jonelle Emich/Jerry Emich
  • Sunday School- Dan Kavocevic
  • Word of Life- Mike/Nanette Maletich
  • Missions- Jacob/Susan Kroslak
  • Youth Group- Brad Horner
  • Deacons- Travis Capper
  • Kitchen- Sherri Kroslak/Tracy Csaky
  • Young Adults- Michael Mrdjanov/Brad Horner/Zoli and Sherri Csepe,
  • Women's Ministry- Suzi Hrubik/Nanette Maletich
  • Prayer Ministry- Jacob Kroslak
  • Adult Fellowship- Jerry/Patty Emich
  • Leadership Team
  • MOMs group- Deb Capper

In addition, Sarah will bring a completed "annual events" calendar for things such as the pig roast, camp, etc. (but please do not assume any event pertaining to your individual ministry as "annual". Please place it on your calendar).

Sarah will facilitate the meetings, schedule and plan them, and be responsible for follow up initiatives and the master calendar, which you will receive accessibility to after the first meeting.
Proposed dates for the meeting are:
  • Saturday AM- August 8th
  • Sunday, after church- August 9th
  • Saturday AM- August 15th
  • Sunday, after church- August 16th
  • Saturday AM- August 29th
  • Sunday, after church- August 30th
Please respond to this email as soon as possible with any of the above dates you CANNOT make. After we hear from everyone, we will send out a final date and time with more specifics.
If you have any questions regarding meeting specifics, please contact Sarah at the church.
Thank you all for your willingness to serve!
The VLBF Leadership Team
"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another- and all the more as you see the Day approaching." Hebrews 10: 24-25

Workers Needed Family Night 6/7

The church is looking for people to serve at the next family night. It will be Sunday, June 7th at 5 p.m. We can talk about it Monday night, but if you're able to help, please let Sarah know!
Thanks!
